An old barn that has been restored and transformed into a showcase for the Royal Automobile Club’s collection of vintage vehicles has been named Surrey’s best heritage conservation project. Surrey Historic Buildings Trust had made two grants towards repairs to a medieval building, Old Well Cottage, in Peaslake. This is a Grade II Listed open hall house dating from c.1400. The Trust has made a grant of £1,400 for re-rendering the whole of the front wall in three-coat lime, and a further £2,000 to fund repairs to the boundary wall at the same property. The wall is important because it has a high public profile in a rural location and contributes considerably to the setting of the listed house.
